So gonna try to keep this short...

I was bidding out install costs on four 2231RP-ZS, one 5231R-ZE, and one 5231E-Z12. This one company who showed up said it was no problem, but after talking about my American flag on my house and some patriotic tattoos I have, he asked if I was military. I said no, but almost everyone else in my family is and I support our men and women in the military. So he tells me the owner of their company is ex-military and specialized in optics and cameras while in the military. I checked into the company later and it is in fact veteran owned.

Anyways, he said the owner once in a blue moon does these deals where they install a "state of the art" system thats worth about $20,000 (cameras, install, programming, 5 year warranty, and 5 years of free maintenance) in exchange for one post per month on Nextdoor app, facebook, and Instagram. He said it can be simply one sentence and maybe us post a picture or short video from the system.

So the way this works, is they have a finace company who pays them $20,000 which is taken out in my name (my credit). Then they pay the approx $350 per month every month for 5 years. This is all on a contract that I read over and was honestly short and to the point (no fine print). They even say if for some reason you miss up to 2 months a year, you can simply "make up" those posts by posting a extra post one of the other months. They seem pretty lenient on the terms.

This "$20,000 system" would consist of 5 cameras, 2 PTZ's, a door bell style hardwired camera called "Skybell", and a dedicated license plate reader. I told him I wanted specs on all the cameras. This is what they sent me just a few hours ago:

Really? So you take out a $20,000 loan and expect them to pay it off? When they don't make the first payment who does the lender go after?

I hear what you are saying, but what stops you from taking them to court with that contract? I have already decided not to do it, so I am speaking hypothetically here. They have a store front here in Texas, address and phone number listed on Google, Facebook, and Homeadvisor.com, and to be honest, their reviews rating on all 3 are very high. Maybe they made accounts and made fake reviews?

Some members already identified the PTZ camera... its a Dahua SD49225T-HN

So yes they were lying about the handmade cameras.

Here is their website: Products

Oh also they are a licensed security company in the state of Texas. Their license number is shown on their webpage. It just doesn't add up... maybe they are just charging ridiculous rates for Dahua products? Some of those homes up in the Woodlands, near Conroe where they are, are million dollar homes. Maybe some of those people will pay those crazy prices.

Dang, they literally had someone post their first negative review in over a year, just 30 minutes ago. The guy is saying he paid over $10,000 and they didn't install stuff up to code, didn't use licensed electricians, or give him any warranty information on the products. He is saying he is taking legal action against them.

What stops you is the cost of litigation and the likelihood that they will disappear. Yes in a perfect world there is fee shifting in these types of cases, but youll likely never collect.
If the facts are anywhere near the way you present them this is complete scam and agient security should be completely ashamed of themselves. Products
First as others have mentioned, this is no 20k system. About 1k in parts. Second asking you to write reviews, which presumably have to be positive and wont mention that you are getting a free system is false advertising in violation of the law and unethical.
Finally, of course their reviews may fake, perhaps they got a bunch of other suckers to write fake reviews for a 1000 dollar system they billed 20k for. I will send these guys a link to this thread so they can explain themselves. It doesnt look good for them. Please post a copy of the contract. FYI there's no maintenance required on cameras or any other part of the system... The promise of free maintenance alone is insane.

And the 5MP models they show are nowhere near as sensitive in low-light as the 2231/5231s that you had picked out.

I read to the point where it said $20,000 in your name and screamed at my phone “AHHH DON’T DO IT!”

Also, I wouldn’t hire them to install anything at your house...

Hi @Slp82

Feel free to share the proposed contract ( remove your personal info before you do ). I am very curious to see what sort of "out" clause they've slipped into it.

All they are doing is marking up the cost by ~10x (roughy/conceptually, don't nit-pick the 10x) and then letting you pay over 5 years. If you make ~6 months of payments, they are break-even and then every payment after that is pure profit to them. Nice scam/way to mark up the pricing by ~10x. If someone is willing to buy my car for $500,000, I'd also finance that deal over 5 years with $10k/month payments. Oh, you also have to give me good online reviews for tricking you into buying my car for $500k.
