How many of you are over 50 and have received the Shingles vaccine? What was your bodies reaction? Holy hell, these two shots have kicked off in my @ss. The first one (two months ago), felt fine (but got in combination with a DTaP) and all was good. Until...I went to bed. Woke up around midnight with chills and a 104.2 temp! by morning, it did pass, but it sucked.

Yesterday I received the 2nd part of it. I told the nurse about my last reaction (at least she was upfront and honest with me) and she said stand-by for this one. She stated that both her and her husband went thru what I did, and the second shot was worse. Holy crap, she wasn't bullshitting. 104.2 again last night, 102.4 this morning, body feels like Samsonite Luggage with the Gorilla testing it. Entire body hurts, joints are really painful, stomach isn't doing great either, and blah, blah, blah. Thank God for Marine Vitamin 'M' (800 Motrin). Now I will probably take a sick day.

She said that it was much better then the alternative of developing shingles, and after seeing my Sister suffer from it, I concur. But damn.

Thanks and be safe out there.

No, it isn't Covid. Every symptom on the sheet is what I have, thank fully I don't have all of them. But it could always be worse.

I have not had the shots yet but we have had a few family members that have and they experienced what you did, but don't remember their temp being that high. Also some of them had Shingles and they welcome these shots. My Dad had his around his waste area, also some around his eyes and neck, Shingles can be Very, Very Painful, they have all stated. One family member suffered about month, I think my Dad was a few weeks, I remember he could not lay down since it wrapped around his whole waste area. My wife had a mild case, mainly on her arms. Her shots did not bother her as much, she did not lose any work when she took them. Our Doctor told us it is best to get them after 60. I know I have heard 50 too, I am one year off from my shots. After the horror stories, it is a no brainer for me. I had Chicken Pox in my late teens, have some facial scarring from it.

Same boat David L. I'm 57 and had a recent physical, which is what started all of this. I have quite a few 'pox' marks as well. Without a doubt, I would do it again AND HOPEFULLY it keeps me from getting it. I expected this from my Pfizer vaccines, but this caught me way off guard. As I said, it could always be worse....thankfully I have over a months worth of vacation time so my boss is good with it. I was just surprised I guess. Amazing how quickly it comes on.

If I remember you got your Covid shot a few months ago. I know I was told if you get a Covid Shot not to get any other shots too close to when you got the Covid shot, I guess not to overload/confuse our body, don't know. How are your kids, wasn't it your daughter got Covid or was exposed to it.

I remember in my early 20's a coworker didn't show up to work for a couple days. When back to work he told me he has shingles and I immediately thought it was and STD haha.

Over the years heard from others that are older than me it can be pretty painful to go though.

I'd much rather get that shot than a Covid shot right now! Get some rest!

I'm 72 now and had shingles Feb. of 2017 at 68. I didn't have it around the waist area like most, it ran along the nerve line on the left side of my neck , starting at the lower rear part of my neck then up and over the left side of my head above the left ear and stopped at my forehead. I have 2 scars in my scalp now. It made my left ear thump and my left jawbone throb. I was worried it would make it to my left eye. where I'm told it can blind the eye. Thank the Lord it never did but I had 3-4 sleepless nights and some strange dreams when I did sleep and light shows when my eyes were closed at night.

I was just talking with the wife ( a retired RN) about the shingles shot just yesterday...not so sure what to do now. I probably should get it anyway 'cause I sure don't want to go through that crap again. And my second Pfizer COVID vacc from the VA kicked my butt, too.

A friend that had shingles a few years back that also had a kidney stone before told me that passing the kidney stone was worse. I told him "Thanks, now I have something to look forward to!" :highfive:

Don't say those words, kidney stones :), I have passed 6 in my lifetime. I remember one time bending a hospital bed bar before I passed out. I have passed out twice, and not because of the meds, they do usually put me to sleep. My last one a few years ago, they gave me a wonder drug, it started with a T, it was a blocker not narcotic. All I can tell you, for me that is, I have about a 30 minute to hour window before I end up in a fetal position. I have asked mothers who passed stones which was more painful, labor or kidney stones? The answer is the latter from the women I have asked, with contractions you get some relief in between the contractions, with a kidney stone it is like having a vise grip attached to your side slowly turning until you pass out. :banghead:

I got the shingles shots about six months before the CCP Virus shots, my internist kept nagging me. I had no reaction to the shots other than the ditzoid that gave me the first one hitting a nerve or bone in my upper left arm. It's been giving me problems ever since that first shot, but I don't blame the vaccine, it was the idiot shoving the needle in.

I've had shingles twice. Once in the early 30's in a band around the lower ribs. That was a PITA. Hurt to breathe, burned and itched like heck for about a week. The second time was at 70, a couple of years ago. Very mild in terms of rash symptoms but still burning and itching around the lower ribs. I'm hoping the vaccine is effective.

I had shingles in my late 20s on my left side around the rib area. I figured out what it was and the doc agreed so I antivirals and a cream within the first 24 hours of the rash beginning to appear. No significant pain or itching. I slept on my side mostly and was fine. Cleared up about a month later. Being younger probably helps a lot.

I am 72. I got the older shingles shot Zostavax about15 years ago. I had no reaction to the shot. That shot is only about 51% effective. I came down with shingles on my face and in my ear about 7 years ago, it was not that bad, i was out of work for only 3 days.

Both my father and my father-in-law had shingles (before the shot was available) for months on end, it was extremally painful.

I just woke up a few minutes ago....I never go back to bed! :) Don't get me wrong, I have been thru FAR worse, but just truly surprised at the symptoms of this.

I brought that up to them, they said it wasn't a factor. Good old military medicine! As for my kids, wow, it has been a roller coaster. So yes, my 9 year old caught Covid, got over it, went back to school and got a mean ass cold! Took a week to get over that, then a few days later I came down with her cold. About a week later, my oldest daughter came down with the cold, and now everyone is healed up. Thank God my wife didn't get sick. She is the one with Behcet's Syndrome so I am happy about that. Though we are not 100% positive, we are pretty sure my youngest caught both of her illness's from the Aerobics Gym she went to on Saturdays. We have terminated those classes.

Up until a little over two months ago, I never even thought about Shingles. OK, going to eat something and go back to bed.

Information is power, and you guys are a wealth of it. Be safe out there.

Both my wife and I had the same reaction to the second shingles shot: about 24 hours of feeling like crap - fever, muscle aches, etc. The first shot was not an issue for either of us, but we both had a strong reaction to the second. I'm not complaining, as I've seen enough people suffer from shingles to know that the vaccine is definitely worth it.

Interestingly enough, I had no reaction at all to the second Pfizer shot for COVID-19, beyond a slightly sore arm.

But I will say this: the shingles vaccine was a walk in the park compared to my two months of misery when I contracted mononucleosis in 2019. :puke: Everything is relative in this world.

I got the shingles vaccine after having shingles. Felt weak and sick for a day or two from each one, but did not have the reaction like you. In the past 5 years I have had stones six times. One was about the size of a .45 bullet. Had surgery for that one. One that was about the size of a 9mm bullet got passed. The others were on the size range of 3-5mm as measured on CT scans. I have cut way back on iced tea and drink mostly just water now, or gin...or a beer once in a while.

You passed a stone the size of a 9mm? Holy hell...I am sorry. And I researched 'mononucleosis'. Double 'holy hell', wow.

I had absolutely no reaction other then a sore arm from the Pfizer vaccines. I know people that had pretty bad reactions to them.

I agree with this:

And you talk to 10 people about their case of COVID or their reaction to the vaccine and you'll get 20 different stories about the effects they had from COVID and the vacc's.
:headbang:
I will be fine, I have been thru much worse. But, it COMPLETELY caught me off guard. Have I had worse? Oh hell yes....dysentery was probably my least favorite...my balloon knot was never the same after that one. :) And there was the old stomach amoeba I came down with from a dining facility it Kentucky. I was active duty then and a Drill Instructor at Paris Island. My stomach swelled so big, I was confined to my living quarters for about 5 days as I couldn't even fit my uniform on. That was marvelous.

Again, I am not complaining, it could always be worse. Its amazing what our bodies go thru though.

Were they Gall stones? If I had kidney stones that big they would of ripped my ureter tube apart :) They do laser break them up now a days too, but I have never had that done...they do that with gall stones too. Yeah was told a long time ago to back off tea too.

So I am presently in recovery too. Just had Surgery Tuesday, torn meniscus repair on my knee. All went well, can't swim for two weeks, will be getting rid of the compression socks Saturday. I am walking, short distances now, using the crutches less today. Will have two weeks of Physical Therapy, was told all should be good a month from now...Little nervous, our 15 year old grandson will be mowing our yard during this time. Something tells me sprinkler head repairs are in my future LOL
