Hello there,

First question on this forum. And a rookie one as well :)
I have a couple of the IPC-HDW5541H-AS-PV cameras in a installation with a Dahua NVR. I have noticed that theAI on one of the cameras is sketchy compared to the others (a.o. it thinks a shadow from a fence is a motor vehicle...)
Then I realised that they are not running on the same version of firmware... I suspect a update would help.

But when I go to the Dahua download site, it is a bit ambiguous what version of the firmware I should use, as none is mentioning specifically my model... So what to choose.

Also I would like a fool proof guide to updating, as I have managed to brick 2 cameras in an earlier setup, when the connection to the camera suddenly went (also trough a Dahua NVR...

I have asked Dahua 3 times directly - no reply...

Thanks in advance

No surprise that Dahua hasn't responded to you!

Most of us here know that the Dahua and Hikvisions of the world do not cater to the "consumer" market - their target audience is professional installers, so we are considered "prosumer" and we are fortunate to get our hands on these types of cameras and NVRs instead of consumer grade junk and not having to go thru professional installers to get quality gear. Now the downside is we get them at a discount and without manuals and Dahua support and thus are on our own to figure it out. And we are just fine with that!

And of late, Dahua even quit putting firmware out on their website because too many people are purchasing Chinese hacked cameras or fake Dahua cams and then bricking them when they try to update the firmware. That isn't the case with Andy's cameras.

Usually a firmware update is to fix a security vulnerability. I suspect it is the field of view for that particular camera that is causing you the issue.

A common theme around here is don't fix what ain't broke. If the unit is working and meets your needs, in many instances an update breaks what you had working and provides you with something you didn't need. A Dahua Z12E that someone updated and then constantly reboots comes to mind, and a certain Dahua PTZ that loses autotracking with an update come to mind, a Hikvision ANPR camera losing half the FPS and loses the ability to read US plates - those are big deals to have happen. Don't do it unless it is fixing a problem you are experiencing or adds a feature you really need.

Further, it is best to obtain any firmware updates from the vendor you purchased it from so that you do not run into issues. Any firmware you find here or elsewhere is obviously proceed at your own risk. We have many threads here where someone tried an update with a firmware they found on the internet and bricked their unit.

Many units being sold are Chinese hacked units that will either brick or go into Chinese upon updating. Some vendors will be upfront and tell consumers that as part of their website, but many do not or the consumer forgets...here is one such example....
