I have taken a small vacation to Mystic Connecticut, We went to the Aquarium in Mystic and had to do a pre screening in a room, I noticed the camera was a Dahua, I did not notice the Black box behind me, It might have been there. Next Stop, Fox-woods Casino, They have a few of these scanning people coming in also hand held devices at different Ingress Locations. I asked the guy if they caught anybody with temperatures, He said they have turned away a handful of people since they re-opened with above average temperatures. Looks like both Units I saw had a NVR for screening. The Casino is Super Clean, we sprayed it down with our own cleaner anyway. Both Units looked like this----> Thermal Temperature Monitoring Solution
What is everybody else seeing?

Edit-- I had a talk with one of the operators, he said they are getting some false positives of like 105 degrees, with multiple people. He said the "Company" who installed them will be doing a service call to check on it. They have a hand held as a secondary check.

I have likewise heard from a company that I've worked with that the Dahua cameras have issues with false positives. It may not be something that a service call can fix. This may be an issue with the camera's firmware.

What is the current most economical (cheapest) camera that has that capability, even if not completely accurate or accurate to within a few degrees?

Revisiting an old thread;
Video from Southern China post popped up on Youtube about North Korea and firing missiles recently.

I noticed in the background of this video that there is a 'black body' used for these thermal cameras.

The local hospital near me had thermal cameras at every entrance, along with people enforcing mask protocol. The mask protocol is still being enforced, but the cameras are long gone. I was told that they were too unreliable to be useful, and were mothballed. Someone spent a lot of money on a lot of cameras that are now gathering dust in a storeroom.

The reason this thread is fresh in my mind is because I got this little guy VERY cheap lol.
Which is a shame given how much someone would have paid for this brand new.
Same deal with my NVR designed for this purpose, I got it less than 3x standard price for basically new. The NVR is the same one as pictured above.

Sadly this version has no IVS rules on the visible or thermal. The only analytics is face temperature scanning and spot/global temperature.
Spot/global temperature would be useful for a garage and any electric device. Such as an alarm when the bonnet of an electric car goes over 'x' temperature.

I plan on using it for thermal time lapses of electronics projects. Otherwise It may end up in my garage watching over an escooter charging.
The built in speaker is pathetic.

After playing around with my camera for a bit.
The 'black body' is to be a temperature reference point. Like ideal body temperature and has to be a set distance from the camera, 1-3m / 3-9ft max . This would then be defined in the cameras settings.

Also that it is not setup correctly like shown in this photo:

The square around the black body is averaging of the temperature within.
In this photo the frame of the black body is also included which would result in a lower temperature than it should be.
Just the black heated square should have been drawn. So this indicates that the camera might be too far away if the box cannot be made smaller.

There is another setting in the camera for ambient temperature.
But there is no sold calibration device to ambient temperature...? The setting is a fixed value so where is the accuracy in that??

I know I was back at Foxwoods In June of 2021, They had pulled all those down. No body is checking for temp anymore, but at the time it sounded good and I suppose it was just a general tool or they figured out they were not working well.

Where can you get these cameras and NVRs so cheap? I don't care about IVS as I use BI anyway. Would be fun t play around with them and see if BI could display the thermal view and detect motion on it.

I keep checking my local auction site and Facebook market place.
I’ve got a few of the entry level ones at home and a few in the field. I posted pics in the wildlife thread. As soon as it gets below freezing here (out in the sticks) I’ll setup my test rig which has a night color, starlight +, and a thermal and do some nighttime tests in my ghilly suit.

These entry level ones bf1241’s are $415 this month and do support ivs on both.
