Choosing the right camera for the right task/position is hard work.Time, patience and research is needed to help you pick out a decent camera.
I try and keep it real, pegging my expectations in line with price/specs and choosing very carefully, after weighing up all considerations.

Is there any secret sauce the pro's use to pick the right camera?

Seems most of the issues people have with camera's are a mixture of
  • Poor choices
  • Incorrect positioning
  • Sub-optimal settings
What cams have you purchased that have punched above their weight or have been a horrible disappointment?

I’ve been using alibi-Observint technologies. I think most of their line is hikvision? Or maybe some Dahua? I need a recommendation for a reliable line of equipment for my customers. Trying to compete with diy is tough. So need cheap cost but pretty reliable. It seems like Dahua is the way to go for more commercial work where price isn’t as crucial. I don’t want to be going back to fix stuff all the time either. Any suggestions?
