I am considering a Blue Iris solution for my new home when it's built. I haven't used any CCTV systems before.

I know you can get purpose-built NVR's that have their brand of cameras. From what I can gather, each camera can be connected to via its IP address and from there various settings set. Hope my assertion is correct at this point. If using the Blue Iris option are all the settings for the various branded (and maybe differently branded) cameras handled from within the Blue Iris software? Would there be any need to revert to the camera's branded setting page to set things up?

Blue iris does camera control settings, pan tilt zoom. It does not set the other setting such as wdr, frame rate, iframe, frame size, compression type, speed ........

NVRs have some camera setting, but not all, as even with in a brand there are configuration items that can only be done in the camera.
