Hi folks - looking for recommendations on the best value on a general use PTZ IP camera ... In an entry class price range. No particular spec requirements, just best quality for least price.

Thanks!

Honestly there is nothing of any quality in that price range. You can take a risk with some no-name aliexpress cams but in my opinion its not worth it.

What's the least expensive of an acceptable quality then?

x2, Great Residential PTZ that will give you a very long service life.. Its very well engineered and IMHO its everything a good PTZ should be.

You could try to save a hundred or two with some really cheap cameras but I doubt you'll be thrilled with the results and the longevity of cheap moving parts.

Would you need IR's or is there some sort of lighting around the area you want to view?

Night + Outdoor + PTZ; I have to assume he needs IR; especially for residential as most people dont live in a well illuminated parking lot and only have a few select places lit well enough to see anything at night without IR.

do it; you'll own a camera thats better than what'd $1200 would have got you just a few years ago.. the HD (2MP+) sensors are cheap, great performing and plentiful now, its a good time to buy.

Also the Dahua SD42212SN, 12X, 1080P vandal resistant PTZ dome, $459 on sale for Labor Day with free shipping at Wrightwood Surveillance. I think that would be your best buy out there. Has very good low light performance.
