Blocking IMOU (dahua) cameras from accessing internet and calling home.

Given the intended customer is unlikely to be blocking it from accessing the internet and yet will want to use it over the internet, that would seem reasonable behaviour. If you're using pfsense, maybe you could try monitoring it's traffic and redirecting the server's it's trying to connect to...

Done with Dahua NVR's and looking for opinions on alternatives

Have you tried DSS ? Because from what you describe that is better suited to the environment you wish to use the software in than smartPSS which to be fair most people have used because it's been free and good enough.

Record RSTP Stream using Dahua NVR

In the manually add camera section of the NVR if you have an option under protocol for custom then you should be able to add it there. On some newer firmware for some models it has been removed in which case you are stuck likely stuck.

Do any of you actually use Dahua P2P for external access to your cams?

Which is great, but you are not a typical end user nor installer. Be proud of that ;)

Do any of you actually use Dahua P2P for external access to your cams?

So do phone makers and those that write the OS for them and everything else. By obsoleting the devices instead of fixing the problems, they abdicate their responsibility for the security vulnerabilities they created. They pass that cost on to the consumer and since people cannot afford to, or...

Any guide aboput selecting the right camera type for various use cases?

Yeah that's a given. It's where some of the learning comes in. Especially since that camera has arm/disarm functionality - depending on the choice of NVR vis-à-vis ability to use that.

Any guide aboput selecting the right camera type for various use cases?

A school of thought is that you want to deter people firstly. Given your digram of garden and assuming there is nothing in there of particular value? then something like the Dahua tioc is a possible choice since it works with IR at night, can switch into colour with motion and then with IVS can...

    Dahua Firmware Page... pulled?

Another possibility to bear in mind is that some older firmware has known cyber security issues, so it is prudent to remove these from circulation. This goes for all manufacturers of any electronic device. Legacy drivers for windows as an example are becoming something more commonly found on...

Dahua IVS API or other external way to enable/disable IVS rules

/cgi-bin/IntervideoManager.cgi?action=getVersion&Name=CGI Try that. It returns a value which seems to match up with the API versioning and newer API have commands that dont work for me in older devices.

Has anyone figured out yet how to RTSP stream channel 0 "multi stream"?

On some (because I can't check all) this is not the channel 0 style but is streaming the local HDMI output over RTSP. So you get whatever is on that GUI currently. Select which cameras, layout, do a tour, alarm activation etc. And if you use the CGI you can control what is being output on the...

    Auto Tracking Pets with Dahua

In earlier firmware it was better at tracking animals and it was considered a bug and was fixed for the reasons you give. There are some custom solutions for tracking certain four legged animals but dont hold your breath for it coming en mass. He'd be better off teaching the dog to walk stood up!

US bans approval of new technology from China's Huawei and ZTE for 'national security

To my knowledge, the only companies prosecuted for flouting the NDAA have been registered and owned in America.

    Which is the better NVR?

Before taking that as gospel I would check out the specs on drives of larger sizes and seem if that is really the case. There might be an extra platter to spin but it's not going to be much current difference Plus if it's a poe nvr and you arent maxing it out, there is likely to be some overhead.

US bans approval of new technology from China's Huawei and ZTE for 'national security

It's like the same silly things which every article says about Dahua being partly government owned. Its 100% true. Every company in China listed on the stock exchange must give a percentage of their shares to the chinese government. About 5%. A bit stupid in context isnt it. Then of course John...

    Which is the better NVR?

It doesn't. These NVR's wil never swamp a single Gbit network port, never mind two of them. It's just more flexibility in having multiple network paths, and dare i say a power play for spec-man-ship vs lesser models. Even x86 based NVR's wont swamp their NIC's, and there are even models with 4x...

Dahua IVS API or other external way to enable/disable IVS rules

That's your opinion and they feel differently. The way it is. CGI API is under a NDA typically. Break the rules and Andy might have some "come back" so I understand him being reticent on such things. He does seem to be very close to what is going on and wont wish to risk that. I dont wish him...

    Snipping pigtail wires an alarm-outs

Your mileage may vary. I've done it and it's fine. Snip back, but then I applied super glue to hold the remaining wire stubs in place and to seal them up. The camera doesn't care. If you accidently connect the wires, then change NO to NC in alarm page :) The 12V input doesn't care if shorted...

    Dahua config backup encrypted?

FYI, if you crash SmartPSS it creates a .dmp file. This may contain some of the passwords for your devices IF they were connected (autologin) when the crash occurs. You can then simple do a text search on the dump file for the device name and you may well get lucky. Dont know how the PSS...
