Why we harp about NEVER using CCA ethernet cable.

The CAT5/6 CCA nonsense also extends to RG6 coax. But instead of CCA they produce what is called CCS (copper clad steel). CCS has limited current carrying characteristics and should not be used in runs that provide power (e.g. Dish antenna installations). And just like what we experience with...

cat 5 vs cat 6 vs cat 6e vs cat 6A

Whatever you choose, be sure your camera runs are 23 AWG (preferred) or 24 AWG Solid Copper (DO NOT USE CCA). I'm running out of CAT5E cable, so I'll switch to CAT6 or CAT6E on future camera runs. Cost increase is minor. For the home run to the outdoor wall mounted demarc box I suggest two...

Possible to get an analog feed from IP system?

My Dahua NVR has HDMI and VGA outputs. The HDMI output has my main cameras. I've configured the VGA output as a sub-screen that displays some interior cameras. I use a VGA to HDMI convertor on it. But in your case you would use a VGA to Composite (PAL/NTSC) convertor. - Thomas

    2022 EmpireTech Chirstmas Sales

I like built-in MICs too. Some of us PTZ users don't operate PTZ full time, only on as-needed basis. And a simple software solution would be to mute or reduce gain on the MIC during motor activity. The exact behavior for the MIC could be a user setting. - Thomas

Good deal Annke 180 degree dual 1/1.8 for $220?

Just thinking out loud here, but it would be ideal if product discussions about Dahua / Empiretech dual cameras was in a separate discussion. Rather than here, in a Annke product discussion. Mostly because it will be easier to find the info if it's not buried here. Plus would return the OP's...

Good deal Annke 180 degree dual 1/1.8 for $220?

Nice. I like the turret format better than the bullet. Any idea of price/availability? The drawing shows ceiling mount. Is there enough movement in the turret "ball" to allow for wall mount? - Thomas

    Comcast/Xfinity Increases 20 million Internet customer's speed

Update: Yesterday my CM500 modem (which runs Xfinity's latest firmware) was only getting 200Mbps. Today I see average speeds that range from 310 to 420 Mbps. And yesterday there was a notice on the Comcast account page that warned of outages in my area due to equipment upgrades. So perhaps...

    Comcast/Xfinity Increases 20 million Internet customer's speed

I just checked my modem specs (Netgear CM500-100NAS). It's advertised as "For Cable Plans up to 400Mbps". But there's some fine print I didn't notice before, which says "Speeds by carrier: Spectrum (up to 400Mbps), Xfinity (up to 200Mbps), Cox (up to 150Mbps). " So that seems to explain why...

    Comcast/Xfinity Increases 20 million Internet customer's speed

I was on their 200Mbps / 5Mbps Performance Pro+ plan. My weekly Comcast speed tests have normally reported a bit higher than that on the downloads. Uploads are typically 4-5Mbps. Checked my Xfinity account today and it states my plan is "Up to 400Mbps" (but no change to upload speed, still...

Why are my gigabit NIC's only doing 100mb?

I've been burned by checking those; Can't speak for your router, but I know that WIN10 doesn't accurately report what is going on. Instead, look at the LED port lights on your switch or router. Assuming each port has different colors for 100/1000 connections, confirm that the 1000Mbps LED is...

DAHUA PoE camera does not power with Poe switch but powers with 12v adapter

Also, try a different the CAT5 cable to connect the camera to the POE switch. That's because POE uses additional wires in the cable, which might be damaged. BTW, I suggest using a short cable for this test. - Thomas

Hello all! Looking for feedback on proposed system.

My thoughts: NVR5208: Good model. But 8 channels will fill up fast (ask around, it's true). Consider 16 CH. Purple Drive: Good. BV-Tech POE Switch: Good brand (I use them). But the reviews for that model have several complaints about failing ports. CAT5e: If any cable is outdoors (or exposed...

Sorry for the long delay. Here's an update on my idea to use ESPEasy for setting the sunrise/sunset states. Initially I found that ESPEasy wasn't compatible with my Dahua and Amcrest cameras. Fortunately the issues were resolved by the main ESPEasy project developer. For those that are...

Looking for suggestions to replace Dahua eyeball cam for coverage including packages left below. Boobie cam, wedge or panoramic?

Good question. I installed it over two years ago and I don't recall how much wiggle room was available for aiming. Mine is mounted on the right door trim, aimed 45 degrees down and 45 degrees to the left. 70 inches AFF. - Thomas

Looking for suggestions to replace Dahua eyeball cam for coverage including packages left below. Boobie cam, wedge or panoramic?

Good to know 4MP boobie can do it. But I misspoke; I actually need IVS on one camera and face detection on the other. Apparently Dahua does not offer a boobie cam that can do that. - Thomas

Looking for suggestions to replace Dahua eyeball cam for coverage including packages left below. Boobie cam, wedge or panoramic?

I'm using a Dahua wedge with 2.8mm lens. Camera is mounted 70 inches AFF. Perfect face shots but cannot see packages directly below. Fortunately most packages are placed further out within view. I had planned to upgrade to a ""boobie" cam (already purchased). But during testing I learned only...
