Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

The 4kt in terms of size is still small. Many phones and action and drone cameras are on 1 inch sensors which whilst only slightly larger than 1/1.2" seems to give gains.

Even then the best cameras are on 35mm given even sensors larger than 1" don't seem to come close to the best 35mm performance. With phones / action / drone cameras it's easy to understand the size limitation. However, CCTV cameras already have quite large bodies making sensor sizes beyond 1" theoretically possible. The Sony from 2016 used a 35mm sesnor albeit it was a large bullet / box style camera. Drone cameras are generally small and if 1" fits in a drone eg the excellent Hassleblad DJI model, then surely a CCTV camera is a cavern by comparison (it has to be said with the Hassleblad DJI, the lens quality appears outstanding from the footage I've seen, another factor with CCTV = not only does a clearer lens allow more light in, but it offers superior sharpness, detail and clarity.

BTW I'm not selling these or receiving commission or recommending them or the seller, just a random link to show how small the cameras are - 3 on 1 drone!

Yep it costs £1,700 but that's 3 cameras plus a drone plus a controller whereas CCTV requires only the 1 camera.
That certainly proves the point, you sound knowledgable from a camera lens point of view, which means you likely know the difference between an average zoom compared to a f1.4 prime 35mm or f2.8 400mm etc, totally different ball game. I remember the days when I used to install high end Panasonic analogue box cameras with best quality f0.95 lenses (or similar) at the time, huge difference for low light, very expensive to build one camera with the Genie housings but fantastic light sensitivity, the S3 today comes close, as do the 4K series with slower shutter speeds, but the modular lenses on high quality box cameras were something else at night. Of course I would take a 4mp S3 all day everyday now due to resolution, but the live image feed on those things was something to behold

In a bullet or even a turret, no reason why a large sensor cannot be installed if is fair to say. I would be interested to know what lens options are available to Dahua and others, and/or if they have to have these custom made. I know from the DSLR/mirrorless world that fast aperture glass transforms the image quality, I would take an old camera with good glass over a new one with average glass all day long, for raw image quality and light gathering ability. I also have no doubt that a 4K-X with upgraded lens and associated onboard processing would likely cost twice the price, still a price I would pay for critical locations though, doubtful I would be alone.

Mmm.... after applying the baseline firmware, the camera doesn't tell to upgrade also the firmware.bin ...

Names of files are wrong. Base file contains a firmware (operating system plus Dahua software).

A firmware.bin file contains additional AI data (for iVS, SMD etc) and very often is the (almost) same between releases (no need to update)

Any news, some 6 months after suggestions we might get some new firmware with actual improvements? Somewhat of a rhetorical question granted. Do we think Dahua have given up on this now or historically have they taken similar times to release firmware for other cameras.

I think part of the lack of updates is the high price of storage right now and the fact that the Dahua brand is banned in the US. I would imagine the US was a large market for them prior to the ban. And yet another reason may be is they are shifting toward cheaper models. We all know that many of the regular users here are not part of Dahua's demographic. They want simplicity where the end user plugs it in and there's no fiddling with their bits

We all are being too hopeful. Too many false promises.

I saw the same things from other chinese companies like xiaomi, huawei or lenovo

They always claim to deliver a solution, but never will. Bugs stays forever
