@Wildcat_1, @EMPIRETECANDY any idea whether it might be feasible for Dahua to implement an alternate mainstream resolution that doesn't make everyone look like Slender Man? From the Hookup's review of 180 cameras it looks to me like the Annke's 5120 x 1440 resolution provides a more "normal" looking image than the Dahua's 4096 × 1800.
It sure would be nice to be able to choose between the two.

I know this one has taken a lot longer than I’d hoped but there were a large number of bugs (18 originally plus FW tweaks needed) that I worked through on this one to get resolved. I’m pleased to say that after a lot of hard work the cam is performing a lot better than it was in pre-production. There is another bug I found while night testing and this is due to the pixel similarity portion of the splicing algorithm, causing the issue to be exacerbated in low light/night scenes. I’ve already documented this and have Dahua engineering engaged and looking through my proposed code recommendations to adjust. You’ll see the issue in the video as I mentioned (I call it out in 1 test), that way all can see what I’m talking about first hand.

With that said, below is the 14 minute night test video as promised. Hope you find it useful as this one was a lot of work :)

I’ll follow up with a couple of separate quicker videos on the turret soon as well

@Wildcat_1 I think I've said it in the past but I will say it again.... Thank You so much for this review and your detailed reviews in general. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into producing these reviews. As somebody who creates videos I know the effort this takes on the edit.

Took these images this evening with BI and the Dahua 5849-A180 camera as live images. i.e. Not taken from the recorded timeline.

Would think that the mesh fence would exasperate the issue with the pixel splicing as pointed out above, but have not seen that. Perhaps not looking in the right area. (Note: See post below for current image that shows the splicing issue)

Overall, the 5849-A180 is performing well.

If I use this camera at my doorway, and someone comes up to within 3 ft of the camera (which is much less than the specified close focus distance of 11.81 ft), would their face be completely out of focus?

Also, do you know if the distortion is reduced if the main stream resolution is reduced to 4M (3840 × 1080) since there’s a wider aspect ratio here?

3ft would be too close so yes out of focus but remember they have to get to your doorway first i.e the approach to the doorway and that is where a cam like this (and others will help). By the time the target has got to the door you already have details because they have to approach your doorway from somewhere. No the distortion is not reduced

Did a close range test of the 180 Dahua camera and can confirm that the splicing issue is apparent in the below image. Image was cropped in PhotoShop with no other changes and saved in the highest JPEG setting.

Test board is about 3 feet from the front of the camera with image taken near sunset.

I’m hopeful that my report and recommendation to Dahua engineering will get this resolved pretty quick for all of us.

I agree you can really see it in the hookups video. Surprised wildcat didn't say anything. You can change the rez but then you are not getting the full 8MP.

I should have 2 of the 180 turrets coming out of Andy's first shipment. Even with the image stretched they should serve their purpose of covering what is currently a fairly large dead zone in my camera coverage, but I do have some concerns about whether the distortion is going to have a significant impact on DeepStack or CPAI's ability to recognize target objects in the still images from the camera.

Yes I mentioned this in the thread so did not not specifically call it out in the video since everyone had discussed the very ‘athletic’ and compressed Wildcat :) and I mentioned that changing the resolution does not help and is NOT the answer. I also mentioned that I did raise this with Dahua engineering as well to investigate possibilities.

I can add a note when I do the follow up turret test video (will be a simple couple of videos based on the more in depth I just completed on the bullet cam). I also noticed that Rob (hookup) never mentioned all the bugs therefore he’s benefited from the work I did with Dahua :) also did not mention the issue still there with day vs night splicing issues :)

That’s why we go in depth here on this forum so all have the real detail and issues seen :)

My goal is to get the a couple of turret videos captured and ready this week as well like I said this will be a much shorter revisit but I will be interested to see how this handles some of the areas I pointed out. There are a couple of things I’m going to take a look at with current code config as well.

I’m also going to do a different camera comparison this time so look out for that ;)
