Got a strange one here.

I can have one window open direct to the camera (which is the source of current time), and have my BI server which will show the same camera showing whats happened almost exactly 4 minutes ago. It varies between 2-4 minutes. What on earth could cause such a lag?

Well.... I may have answered my own question, but it doesn't make any sense. Restarting each camera fixed this issue. As each camera restarted, it showed the correct time compared to the time shown at the bottom right of the server screen. Weird.

If you restart the cam in BI, is there no noticeable lag initially but there is a small lag that accumulates over time?

HAH! We're typing at the same time (but I'm slower).
That's where I was headed!
BUT.....does it accumulate so that it's off by 30 seconds after an hour, 10 minutes after a day, etc. ?

I will look at it again in 24 hours, and see how bad it falls off. What makes it really strange is if you go directly to the camera, it shows the correct time. But it was up to 4 minuted off in BI!

Likely a delay in the stream, maybe network-related.

Back when I was experimenting with OBS to live-stream BI I was getting an accumulated delay going from cam RTSP=>BI server & display=>OBS server & display, can't recall the exact ratio but after an hour or so I believe it was a minute or two slower on OBS than as show on BI.

Most of the time when this is occurring there is some sort of network issue. The most common of which is that the data from the cameras is being passed through the router which cannot handle the load even though you might think it could. The blue iris PC should be connected to the same switch as the cameras or a switch coming from the camera switch. It should not be connected to the router.

All cameras are on a POE switch going straight to the BI server on one NIC. The second NIC is connected to the LAN switch. And done as completely different networks. i.e, you can’t access the cameras by any computer on the LAN, except the BI server.

I had something similar happening for a while. A couple of my cams would at times be a few minutes behind. Asked about it here:

Never did figure it out. Just magically stopped on its own not long after I posted that. Didn't change anything to resolve it. Still not sure how a local stream would be lagged/buffered like that. I should have corrected that... it wasn't just in UI3 but in BI as well. Viewing the cam direct would be fine.

Does yours show OK in multi-cam view?
