Hi all -- thanks in advance. A bit of noob at this so likely made a boneheaded mistake somewhere but thanks in advance.
So have been tinkering with my first system for a while. Ran Cat cable, hooked up the cams, have a dedicated CPU (I7) and instaled Blue Iris 5. So far so good. Home networked through an Asus router with DDNS -- xxx.asuscom.com up and running. So far everything working pretty well

However, now trying to set up the mobile app on my android (and ran same exercise on wife' iphone in case android issue) but cannot connect. I have triple and quadruple checked the settings off webserver, password, etc. I even use the QR code scanner as well. No joy. I ran the remote wizard and green across the board (turned UPnP on though know I shouldn't but thought that might be the issue - since didn't work now turned back off).

AM beginning to think maybe there is some other setting I did incorrectly somewhere in this ecosystem. Learned on one thread that needed my BI CPU hardwired. So learning bit by bit but need the help on this one..... spent too long trying to figure it out to no avail.

thanks

Thanks. I should have added this: I cannot connect even on my local network. Let alone outside.
But I did go through that, thank you. Have OpenVPN up and running on ASUS router and have tested the tunnel into the home from outside.

If you set up stunnel on your system and have the option for HTTPS on LAN checked, you have to install the root certificate on your device running the app (iOS/Android) or the app will not connect over http or https.

doubt you made it this far but just incase...

I didn't make it that far. But not sure I was going that route. I thought for remote access it was port forwarding vs. VPN vs. Stunnel so I went the VPN route. But I can't even access this when running on my home network, so focusing for now on the 1M target of making it at least work. Ca't even focus on the 5M target yet.
Thank you

from your home network can you Ping xxx.asuscomm.com and get a valid correct IP address returned ? If no you do not have the DDNS set correctly

Disable wifi on your phone. From your phone will the OpenVPN client connect to the ASUS VPN server ?
if no did you install the correct client.ovpn file from the asus router on your phone ?

re: UI3 connection -> no. timed out "ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT "

re: ping asuscom.com -> yes, returns same WAN address on webserver tab of BI

re: connection to the router via openvpn -> I do believe so. tested it from outside the home on cell network today.

I am sure this is obvious, but is your BI computer on the same IP address range as your router?

Have you firewall prevented the BI computer by talking to the rest of the network? If you go to the Folder below and select it and then on the far left go down to the bottom and select Network, do other computers show up as accessible?

Screen shot of the Blue Iris settings web serve tab
Screen shot of the LAN web browser screen that failed the UI3 connection.

1) What is the LAN IP address of the router ?
2) what is the LAN IP address of the BI computer ?
3) what is the LAN IP address of the UI3 computer. ?

Is the BI compute directly connected to the router ?
Is the LAN UI3 computer directly connected to the router ?
Are you running a fire wall on the BI computer ?
Do you have the BI web server port blocked on your router ?

Make sure the blue iris servers network connection is set to "private" and NOT "public"

Also give us Screen shot of Blue Iris Settings > Webserver > Advanced

Nothing too obvious, gents. I barely know what I am doing at this stuff. Busy day running around with kids but I appreciate the ideas and will revert asap today when I can sit fdown and go through some of this stuff.
This is all pretty addictive actually.... This problem has caused me to much deeper down the rabbit on BI that I probably would have otherwise and dare I sy it's becoming fun. Will revert, cheers

yeah, nothing too obvious.... BI machine was not visible on the network. So good to go. Thanks all
But will likely be back. I tested WAN access with OpenVPN connection and wasn't connecting. Will dig into and peruse these forums and the interwebs before wasting anyone's time.
And if get that working probably something else.
Thanks again, all.
cheers

Not sure if best to follow here or on a new thread but will try this first.
I have been struggling to connect BI while on OpenVPN.
BI / UI3 connects jsut fine when on home network.
OpenVPN connects from my phone and shows as connected on my asus router UI.
I have set it up per Randy's settings in the link others as provided. I have red the VPN primer for noobs. Have DDNS set up.
I do have the LAN routing info in the WAN box (and tried blank WAN as well).
I think has something to do with allowing the router to access the network but I am struggling to get further than that.

I tried. In another thread where you helped a gentleman with this same predicament.
Does it have something to do with the router allowing vpn to access the LAN? I found a couple non IPcamtalk threads out there but either involved writing scripts or wasn't very helpful.
In some respect same as my original issue; I had BI and app set up correctly but did not have BI sever discoverable on network. So silly setting up front prevented from working (ie bonheaded noob mistake)

1) What is the LAN IP address of the router ?
[192.68.50.1]
2) what is the LAN IP address of the BI computer ?
[192.68.50.5]
3) what is the LAN IP address of the UI3 computer. ?
[192.168.50.206 - my android device]

Is the BI compute directly connected to the router ?
[SORT OF - ASUS ROUTER WITH EERO BRIDGE - BI CPU IS HARDWIRED INTO EERO - THIS WORKS FOR MY ALARM.COM RADIO]
Is the LAN UI3 computer directly connected to the router ?
[NO, WIFI]
Are you running a fire wall on the BI computer ?
[YES - MACAFEE - HAVE THE ASUS AI PROTECION ENABLED AS WELL]
Do you have the BI web server port blocked on your router ?
[I DON'T THINK SO...? - PORT FORWARDING IS DISABLED - THOUGHT I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO OPEN THAT UP AT ALL]

can you access the BI computer using UI3 form another local computer on your network ?
If you can not access BI on the local network the VPN will never work.
Does the ASUS router have WIFI enabled ?
Screen shot of the BI configuration (gear) web server tab.

I am Not familiar with EERO configuration.
