I dunno. They apparently live on the island/preserve across the canal. Show up every year when it gets hot, usually July/August. They’re early this year.

Yeah they feast on the bugs which are thick here on the water, and seem to get pissed off at the camera IR

They seem to fly so low. Is there a problem when opening the door to go outside at night? In other words, do you have to worry about being hit by a flying bat?

They fly around and suck up bugs by the hundreds. The IR attracts the bugs, and the bats come in to get the bugs.
I have seen them around here a few times. they would fly inches from the dog and cats, but never ran into anything.

I put up a bat box, but never seen anything use it. I was hoping they would feast on the mosquitos that are fierce around here.
I had a electrostatic bug zapper up for a ling time. The pile of bugs under it would pile up at night, and disappear during the day.

I wonder...is there anything to put inside the Bat Home Box to make them...happier to hang out? Or is it just hit & miss if they start to reside or not?

I do know they like a cool spot. I tried a couple spots over about 10 years, but never had any "leavings" to let me know it was inhabited.
Would be nice to know how to draw them in, the bugs did not do it.
