Hi everyone,
I have a 10 camera security system on my home. Its about 2 years old. Today, I noticed that 2 of my cameras starting doing something weird. I’ve uploaded a small video to show what its doing. Anyone have any idea if this can be fixed? Or is it just time to buy a new system maybe?

Thanks for any help!

Hi @HeresMathew: Is it that black "line" running across the mid-below camera? Is it the sound on the background? Is this only in Live View or is this also in Playback mode? As a first resort I'm tempted to say: do a factory reset of that specific camera and configure it like it was earlier (eg MD/IVS/...).

Good luck!

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Its doing on both live view and recorded clips. I uploaded 2 more (clearer) clips. Any idea what's going on?

are they analog cameras? did you use cat 5 with a balun? if yes, try replacing the balun. I had issues like this in the past. If that does not help check the power supply.

Thanks for replying. I'm not really sure about the balun... But yes they are analog cameras. We just used what was in the kit. This was an Annke DVR + 8 camera system (DN81R is the model).

I uploaded two more clips:

I would just try swapping the cameras around and that will at least tell you if it's a wiring issue. The pre made cables that come with kits are usually pretty bad quality. also check the connections.

Indeed, good suggestions above : "bad" cables do suffer from corrosion and/or interference. Are these "artefacts" happening all the time or only when you use your microwave oven (as an example).

To debug yourself: exchange 2 camera's, and see if the results "stick" to the camera or do they remain at the same location - that could indicate a possible root cause. It won't hurt to inspect indeed the connectors, clear/exchange those and grease them.

Keep us posted!

You might want to read this thread "waves on screen" just from last month and @Old Timer 's suggestion here.

An excerpt of his post:

"I have also seen this happen when the camera is mounted on a metal grounded surface that is grounded to the AC power system.
It causes a ground loop.
The fix, is to either insulate the camera from the metal surface, or to use a couple of balun (transformer) to convert the 75 ohm unbalanced to
balanced, then back to unbalanced. Or if you can find it a 75 Ohm to 75 Ohm un-un.
This breaks up the ground on the video signal, and thus removes the 60 hz hum.
This will also take out the hum when the siamese cable is ran alongside AC wiring some of the time in mild cases."
Regarding the siamese cables, Insure none of those cables run parallel within 4 feet of power cables and if you must cross them do so at a right angle.
