I forced IR off and it is still running quite warm.

The contact less thermometer shows about 98f

Hmmmm. Any more insight on the thermal issues with this camera after removing the desiccant packs? Was looking at starting my first system up with a few of these before I made any further investments. I live in a hot desert climate, which is pretty hot half of the year and mostly dry, although we do have some rain and a VERY humid "monsoon season" in the late summer. Maybe this camera isnt for me. I was actually looking at the 2.8mm, not the 3.6mm initially. These would be for covering my front door area and a couple cars parked in very close proximity to that front door.

I definitely thought the same thing regarding the plastic housing.

The tip on the SILICA bag--- fantastic! I will pull mine down again and open it up... Thanks!!

Digging this thread up to ask how these camera's have faired after removing the desiccant pack? :)

It is still chugging along just fine, and I added another one just like it for $44 about a month ago or so. With the Dahua firmware installed on it, I get basic IVS detection and reasonable imagery in my pitch-black backyard. The motion and object detection is marginal at the edges of my yard at night-- does not always create an alert in BI.

I'm ok
I have one that's been flashed with Dahua firmware when I was trying to get it working with a Dahua NVR.
It has been inside for several months, then I put it outside up about 30'. Of course it started dropping video
at times, and would not allow me to access the web page. I guess I need to climb back up and see if the packet
moved around inside. It's really disappointing coming from Amcrest.

My only issues came at night when the IR was running and generating heat. I turned my IR to manual and run it under 50% on these cams.

Thank you for the updates. My outdoors areas where I am thinking of using these are well lit so I'm thinking it should stay in colour and keep IR off then (and prevent this issue), correct?

And on that note, has anyone been able to do a comparison between this and the 2431 (IPC-T2431T-AS') performance (day and night) ? I searched the forums extensively and couldn't find anything.

That cam will need a LOT of light to give you a decent color image in low light. At 4+MP you really need a 1/1.8 sensor camera to get decent imagery At 5mp-- each pixel on the sensor gets only a tiny proportion of light gathered on a 1/2.8 sensor (or whatever the exact measurement is). You can try it-- and I bet you may get some great looking still shots, but then when you walk through the frame you'll see ghosting and significant motion blur.

Thanks. We light our property up pretty well (due to high crime rate) so I had just assumed they'd do colour fine at night.

Anyone have insight into which of them (Amcrest 1179 or Loryta 2431) has better low light performance? Based on their specs (sensor size, mp & min. lux) it seems like a toss up.

FWIW, mine are staying in color throughout the night. Just using typical exterior house "carriage" lights. Some areas have low wattage garden lamps in the background.

Daytime performance is fantastic compared to my previous 1080P AHD security system. Night time static images look great. But the low light induced motion blur isn't a good fit for every application. The motion blur isn't a deal killer for me, so I'm using several Amcrest 1179 in my budget constrained system.

I bought 3 of these july 12th. @$59. part# is (IP5M-T1179EW-28MM) from Amazon. All three are in laundry rooms with 4 dryers each. the boiler pipes also contribute to the heat in that part of the building. They are mounted high on the wall. They all are working normally. I pulled my own cat5e and terminated myself.
If it was me I would try and return that camera i think . let me see if i can find a pic. The three cameras middle right. 2 in IR one in color. not specifically a photo about those cams.....But I am seeing good motion and good video...and best of all they are actively deterring the sharpie nasty gram bandito who was scribbling his/her opinions onmy bulletin boards.

Hi! I am a total newbie. Would you mind teaching me why you had to terminate the Cat5e cable yourself? I thought you just plug an ethernet cable into the camera? Thank you?

When running cable through a building, you buy bulk cable. 1000 feet to a box usually. then you cut it and put an end on it. if your pulling 2 or 3 runs at the same time you tape the ends together and use a nylon pull string to push or pull it thru walls, ceilings, etc....
