Request: Your experience with Win 10 vs. 11 & different versions.

No problems for me with updates disabled. I do get pissed as heck when the upgrade to win11 nags come up, or something pops up telling me what I should search for. There's probably a way of turning this stuff off in gpedit, I just don't want to spend any more time on it. I've come to see...

Poor quality cable or rj45 connectors?

What a loaded question! Just about everyone here has a different opinion, there's no general agreement. I think the best is the type with inserts sold by Monoprice. Darned close to as easy as passlthroughs and have a closed end. In the past they were way less expensive than the passthroughs...

Poor quality cable or rj45 connectors?

I will be extremely surprised if a POE NVR uses Mode B. I'm sensing some "A" "B" confusion here. TIA/EIA568A and TIA/EIA568B are a wiring standard. They have absolutely nothing to do with POE Mode A or POE Mode B (other than the power is carried on the wires). Any TIA/EIA568A and TIA/EIA568B...

I don't see it either. It's starting to look like the $4k increase in age 65+ standard deduction is going to be claimed as "no tax on social security". Yet another lie of course, and it expires after a few years.

    Andy's NVR vs Blue Iris?

It's a 5842-Z S2. It's pretty much a junk camera for me because it won't detect animals, but occasionally I find a temporary use where the higher resolution is handy. Right now it's mounted to a 2x4 sticking out of a bucket filled with rocks, and its wire runs through the tall grass.

Poor quality cable or rj45 connectors?

Cables built to the standard are the same for both modes. Most modern switches do not support Mode B. I've never heard of a switch supporting Mode B, although at least one must certainly exist. OK, so you're using an injector, where 7/8 DO matter. One remote possibility is a mistake I made...

    Andy's NVR vs Blue Iris?

The old dog learns another BI trick. It seemed very logical to me that if my UI3 display was 1080p, then a data rate higher than 1080p would be a waste. Wrong! Each faster speed shows an image detail improvement, even going from 2160 to 4320. However, from poking around, the very best...

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

Time to take a stand! Are you with him, or with me? As politicians like to say, if you're not with me, you're against me, blah, blah, blah! But if he's right, a lot of us will have more money for cameras. This stuff is such a mess. In the no tax on tips section the bill says: In...

    Blue Iris UI3

Well dang, even knowing it's there I still can't find it in the help. The setting is called "Playback Controls: Skip 1 Frame Buttons", and even after searching for all the keywords I can't find it.

I've skimmed the house bill and sure can't find this. https://www.congress.gov/119/bills/hr1/BILLS-119hr1eh.pdf The summary list of tax cuts is: PART2—ADDITIONAL TAX RELIEF FOR AMERICAN FAMILIES AND WORKERS Sec. 110101. No tax on tips. Sec. 110102. No tax on overtime. Sec. 110103. Enhanced...

    Andy's NVR vs Blue Iris?

Doesn't have to be if the contributors stay objective. The platforms are different, and at least with BI and NVR, neither one does every single thing better than the other. This makes one better for some people and the other better for other people, based on their needs and preferences. The...

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

This one looks like total fake news. "Trump's executive order ending birthright citizenship is now in effect, after SCOTUS decision." The ruling was stayed for 30 days, so forget the "now" part. It is NOT in effect at this time. The whole mess is bouncing back to lower courts. SCOTUS did...

    Andy's NVR vs Blue Iris?

What I think of your wildlife is slow, geblunk, geblunk, at least before they're ready to chomp down on somebody :) Even the little ducks didn't exactly race out of their house. I wonder if any of them made it, talk about diving into the pit full of gators. I occasionally get a pretty good...

    Andy's NVR vs Blue Iris?

I run 10 fps, so that factors into the big picture. BI is a continuous recording with an index file for the events. At first years ago I thought it was clever that Dahua leveraged the linux file system for tracking the events. I've since changed my mind because there are too many unintended...

Not true for pretty much every POE switch in existence. They use Mode A.

    Andy's NVR vs Blue Iris?

This could be one of the times I could learn something. Bigred, could you walk me through an easier way to single step through an event in SmartPSS? The way I do it is to find the event on the timeline, zoom the timeline, start playback just before the event and single step until it quits...

    Andy's NVR vs Blue Iris?

This is just editorial opinion after just having found in the BI instructions how to make something work right, that is totally easy in SmartPSS because it's the default. Comparing viewing between SmartPSS and UI3, with SmartPSS it's like crawling on the hot desert floor, compared to happily...

    Andy's NVR vs Blue Iris?

That's going to be at least a partial explanation. When I crank the bitrate up to 8k/4320 the image definitely improves. I think SmartPSS still looks sharper but can't really tell right now because the light level is a lot lower and even the SmartPSS image looks lousy compared to this morning...

Poor quality cable or rj45 connectors?

Good idea, but the test itself will a waste of time if the camera is plugged into a POE switch, where pins 7 and 8 won't be used.

Wow, fair and balanced. Never get away with that in the politics thread!

    Andy's NVR vs Blue Iris?

I'm not claiming that you can't accomplish these tasks with SmartPSS, it's just that there is a very significant difference in the time and effort involved. Here's an example where zoom is useful, even when displaying a single camera on full screen. (snips from SmartPSS). To illustrate...

    Andy's NVR vs Blue Iris?

Lots of ways to define performance so I'm not going to use that broad brush. For me the big difference between the NVR and BI is in ease of use and productivity. That's not the whole story however because I rarely use the native interfaces on either one, instead using SmartPSS and UI3. So I'm...

    Smart PSS lite computer requirements

There was a significant performance increase with the 8th generation Intel processors. One approximate way to look it it is that a 8th gen i5 has roughly the performance of an earlier i7. I'd be surprised if SmartPSS Lite didn't work well on your laptop, but of course the only way to know for...

"I DARE you to show me where it slashes taxes on Social Security" It's in plain view right after the pledge to not get involved in any wars, and just before the plan to audit Ft. Knox. I'd come over and point it out except I'm scared of gators.

You buy one or more tickets, then sit glued to the computer the day the winners are posted, and end up with either an up day, or a down day. Andy posts the prize list before the lottery, and how many tickets will be issued. You can number crunch your odds of winning and see either how much...
