    PoE surge protection.

Ideally everything is shielded and connected to the single point earth grounding system in the home / business electrical system. For shielded Ethernet cable to work as expected and offer shielding and grounding both RJ45 connectors must be the shielded type. That same cable either inserts into...

    PoE surge protection.

The solution isn’t just the installation and use of a certified UL / cUL IEEE SPD (Surge Protection Device). Lightning / surge protection is a System. In simple terms a low resistance Earth ground. Proper shielding and isolation. SPD to absorb and shunt to ground excess voltage / current. If...

POE switches (outdoor) to reduce cable runs

What you’ve done is indeed industry best practices. As this insures you have enough service wire to mount or move the camera to its final destination. It allows you / anyone repair a bad connection etc. Having said this, this is why shielded cable was created to reduce the impact of RFI / EMI...

POE switches (outdoor) to reduce cable runs

You have a couple ways to do it if you have different goals. Quick & Dirty: You can do as you suggested and run a ground wire into the GFCI outlet. Fast & Easy: Make a plug with a single 12-14 AWG stranded (green / green & yellow) cable. The ground to the switch is simply connected to the new...

Second Dead Hard Disk in BI system

Absolutely wasting your time using USB / eSata to transfer security video 24.7.365! In 2024 the only method to connect and transfer data is via Ethernet, SFP. :thumb: As it relates to the failed drive I would echo the other members thoughts about checking if the HDD is still under...

NSA Director Keynoting Dahua and Hikvision Sponsored Cybersecurity Conference

Sadly, this is so true of almost any government today. :( Canada for example has been on a steady death spiral of corruption, insane weak laws, pathetic military, and weak borders. As it relates to Hikvision / Dahua everyone in this thread already knows about best practices with...

POE switches (outdoor) to reduce cable runs

The operating range is much better vs the other one used before. I would however like to make a few suggestions to help extend the operational service life of the unit. Purchase an external heat sink that is almost the same size as the outer case and insure the proper heat transfer medium is...

Issues with older type IP cam

Just to quickly close off this topic I have to report this firmware on this specific camera isn't quite right. The custom colour is seen on the OSD which is the main driver for me. Oddly, when the system fires off an email the OSD is still in Black & White?!?! At the end of the...

I was so excited until the 403 forbidden banner came up to download the firmware. If time permits can you upload or provide a share link to the needed firmware. NOTE: To the OP my apologies for taking your thread off the rails and not on topic! :(

Issues with older type IP cam

For the benefit of others who may run into the same problem this is what version firmware I'm having a problem with: As seen here there is no custom option when you select the font color besides what's listed as Black & White Self Adaptive.

Yeah where there’s a custom option as normal that isn’t there. :( The camera is a DS-2CD2147G2H-LISU 4 mm / with whatever firmware is listed on their website now.

Sell them or give them away . . . In 2024 there’s no reason to keep using 1990 technology that is also quite ugly! As of this writing relating to Hikvision is to purchase their 4 MP 1/1.8” hybrid ColourVu IP cameras. Offers the best of both worlds of IR, Light, and Smart IR / Light...

POE switches (outdoor) to reduce cable runs

The switch is clearly rated for indoor use with a operating temperature of 32 ~ 104’F. As stated it’s more likely the device failed do to poor grounding when the lightning event came. POE switches (outdoor) to reduce cable runs

It would be helpful to know the exact model of this Hikvision POE switch. As an aside this highlights the importance of several things as it relates to hardware, grounding, shielding, and the use of SPD’s. Hardware: Anything that will have to endure the extreme heat, cold, moisture, and...

    It can't possibly be the coupler . . . .

I’ll finish up as it relates to the RJ45 connector or anytime a termination is made. The ends are wiped down with IPA after it’s been handled and prior to inserting the cable, Ferrell, etc. Human finger sweat / grease / whatever else will speed up corrosion on copper like nobody’s business!

    It can't possibly be the coupler . . . .

Safe to say the quality or lack thereof of the OEM cable from Dahua / Hikvision when compared to other industry standard companies such as Axis, Bosch, Pelco, Mobotix, etc. Is pretty shit . . .

Does this mean my Ezviz DB1 is toast?

Personally if access isn’t an issue I would probably go with what a lot of IPC members are doing. Which is installing that Reolink POE doorbell which seems to have good reviews. No more worries about WiFi and streaming video issues.

    It can't possibly be the coupler . . . .

I’ll add this is also why every commercial, enterprise, and military installation pass through RJ45 connectors aren’t used. Using a dead end connectors provides a measure of protection for the copper wiring. I shoot some dielectric grease into the RJ45 connector before the wire / load bar is...
